Emir of Kano commissions projects at UNIBEN

BENIN—AUTHORITIES of University of Benin, UNIBEN, have commissioned the first phase of completed projects at the institution’s newly developed Site B, Ugbowo Campus.
Emir of Kano and Chancellor of the University, Muhammad Sanusi II, commissioned the projects at the Ugbowo Campus during the 43rd Convocation Ceremony of the University.
A statement by the Public Relations officer, PRO, of the University, Mr. Michael Osasuyi, listed the projects at Site B to include two football pitches at the sports complex, gulf course, veterinary offices for staff, veterinary laboratory and a Botanical garden to boost research and scientific studies on animal welfare.
He said: “The feat is in line with the 5-year development plan of the university under the leadership of the Vice-Chancelor, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, few years ago, towards expanding the frontiers of learning and teaching.”
He further disclosed that the projects were funded by Federal Government’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, and NEEDS assessment, internally generated revenue, IGR, from UNIBEN and UNIBEN Alumni Association.
Also commissioned by the Chancellor at the main Campus, “are a female hostel block, Centre of Excellence in reproductive Health and Innovation (CERHI), library and lecture Theatre halls for Faculty at the Education; ultra-modern studio for Faculty of Environmental Science and the UNIBEN Micro finance. The Bank which is located few meters away from the Faculty of Education is expected to provide Banking services to staff, students and the public, was donated by the Alumni association of the University.”
Engr Wilfred Irogue, Deputy Director of Works, who during the facilities tour, informed the Chancellor that the Micro Finance Bank had been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Besides the provision of the facilities, the University management provided social amenities and development to its immediate Communities including Igue-Ehana and Uteh-Koko to discourage further encroachment on the University land by land speculators.
